Paul Robinson has tipped Everton to cash in on Newcastle United target Anthony Gordon in the January transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested the Toffees would take £40million for the 21-year-old to give their new manager funds to work with.

Gordon was the subject of interest from Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea last summer.

Newcastle

According to Sky Sports (26 January), the Magpies have held talks with Everton over a deal for the winger.

The England under-21 international failed to turn up to training for the third successive day on Thursday.

Sources have told this site (26 January) that Gordon has made it clear that he wants to leave Goodison Park.

When asked by Football Insider if a deal could soon be agreed, Robinson said: "Gordon is the one.

"He is overrated for me. The talk of £65-70million in the summer was incredible really.

"Yes, he is an exciting young player but has he really lived up to expectations? I'm not sure he has. I do not think we have seen enough from him to warrant that kind of money.

"In a few years time, Everton might regret selling him but the truth is his output has not been good enough this season. He has been a bit-part player.

Everton

"Everton need to give the next manager wiggle room. If they can get around £40million for Gordon that would give the manager funds to work with. If it is a case of selling one of [Amadou] Onana, [Jordon] Pickford or Gordon I would sell Gordon. He would be the one for me.

"I think Everton will take the money for him if they can."
