Revealed: Liverpool secure £31m in cash - £17m more on the way
Liverpool have already cleared £31million from their wage bill this summer, Football Insider can reveal.
The Reds have had a summer clearout at Anfield after an underwhelming Premier League campaign in 2022/23.
Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left the club following the expiration of their contracts, while Arthur Melo returned to Juventus following his disappointing loan spell.
A number of young stars have also headed out on loan, including Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsay and Rhys Williams.
Overall, Football Insider analysis reveals that Liverpool’s exodus has taken £31million per year off the club’s wage bill.
Firmino’s £180,000 per week wages cost the club £9.4million annually, while Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain were both paid £6.2million per year with a weekly wage of £120,000.
Liverpool are set to cut their wages even further through the imminent sales of midfield duo Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
Henderson currently earns £7.3million per year with a weekly wage of £140,000, while Fabinho’s contract is equal to Firmino’s at £180,000 per week and £9.4million per year.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (23 July) that Henderson’s move to Al Ettifaq has been completed with the deal worth £120million in total.
Fabinho is also closing in on a move to Saudi Arabia, and their departures will take a further £17million off the club’s wage bill.
Liverpool’s 2021/22 financial accounts revealed that their wage bill hit an all-time high of £366million per year.
This summer’s clearout will have helped to drop that figure, while Liverpool’s failure to qualify for Champions League football could have an impact too, with multiple players set to see their wages drop as a result.
