Sources: Chelsea line up new Rudiger talks after £10m+ Tottenham deal negotiations
Chelsea are lining up new contract talks with Antonio Rudiger but Tottenham are on alert if a deal can not be agreed, Football Insider understands.
The Germany international, 28, has reignited his Blues career under Thomas Tuchel and that has put a different slant on his future.
A Chelsea source has told Football Insider that the club want to keep Rudiger and he is set to be offered a long-term deal ahead of the summer.
The player himself is said to be keen for his future to be sorted before the window opens.
Should Chelsea offer a contract that meets Rudiger's demands it is likely he will put pen to paper.
His current agreement expires in the summer of 2022 and that puts pressure on the Premier League giants to tie him down rather than lose him on a free next year.
Tottenham came close to signing Rudiger last summer and were hopeful of reaching an agreement going into the final days of the Premier League window.
Chelsea wanted a loan fee – believed to be more than £4million – for the centre-back as well as for all of his £150,000-a-week contract to be covered.
The cost of the deal would have been more than £10m, and that was deemed too high by the Spurs hierarchy for a season-long loan.
Spurs subsequently signed Joe Rodon from Swansea City for £11million rising to a potential £15m.
Rudiger struggled for game time under ex-manager Frank Lampard but has started every Premier League match since Tuchel took charge at the end of January.
He has how started 12 of the club's 27 Premier League matches this season as well as seven other appearances in the cups.
Rudiger has played 134 times for Chelsea since signing from Roma in 2017.
