It would take a bid of at least £80million for Man City to consider selling red-hot forward Julian Alvarez, sources have told Football Insider.

City's current record departure is the reported £47.5million deal which took Raheem Sterling to Chelsea in 2022.

Interested clubs would need to far eclipse that figure to even open the door to a potential swoop for Alvarez.

Chelsea

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that City "do not need the money" and are "desperate" to keep Alvarez around.

The World Cup winner was signed for a reported fee of £14.1million back in January 2022.

He contributed heavily as City won the treble last season, scoring 17 goals and grabbing five assists across 49 games.T

The most impressive feat in his career so far came as he managed four goals in the World Cup finals as Argentina lifted the trophy last winter.

Alvarez has taken that form to another level in the new campaign while playing in a second striker berth alongside talisman Erling Haaland.

He penned a new five-year contract earlier this year amid continued speculation linking him with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Man City

City chiefs feel that despite his stellar recent form, Alvarez can improve even more in the seasons to come.
