Man United sensation James Garner has reached agreement on a new contract with the club, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The midfielder, 20, had rejected the opening offer from the Premier League giants to throw his future into some doubt.

But a United source has told Football Insider that Garner has now agreed a new four-year deal following a breakthrough in talks.

It means he will put pen to paper on a deal that runs until 2025, replacing his current agreement that expires next year.

The rising star signed his current terms when he was aged 18 back in 2019.

United's plan this summer has been to extend Garner's contract and send him out on a season-long loan to gain further first-team experience.

The hurdle has now been climbed and the extended deal will give Garner the opportunity to reach a temporary agreement with one of his Championship suitors.

Garner had loan spells at Watford and Forest last season.

He played 21 times for the Hornets before switching to the City Ground in January, where he made a further 20 appearances and scored four goals.

A central midfielder, he has been a regular among United's first team for their pre-season fixtures.

Star man Bruno Fernandes told United's official website that he has been hugely impressed by the youngster, hailing his ball striking as well as his "really aggressive" style.
