Sources: Garner opens Man United talks as transfer lined up

Manchester United are planning to agree a new contract with James Garner and then loan him out in the new season, Football Insider understands.

The midfielder, 20, is regarded as an exceptional young talent by the 20-times champions and multiple clubs want to sign him on loan.

A United source has told Football Insider that talks are underway over a new long-term contract for Garner.

His current deal expires in the summer of 2022.

Multiple Championship clubs are keen on Garner, who had an impressive loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season.

Garner agreed to join Watford on a season-long loan last summer.

However, after the firing of Vladimir Ivic, the midfielder fell out of contention.

The loan was eventually terminated after Garner made 21 appearances for the Hornets.

His subsequent move to Forest was a success as he found the net four times during his 20 outings.

The youngster also has seven outings for Manchester United to his name.

He featured heavily in the club’s Europa League group stage campaign during the 2019-20 season.

Garner was in from the start in games against AZ Alkmaar FC Astana and Partizan.

The Birkenhead-born midfielder signed his last Old Trafford deal in July 2019.

Manchester United have had a busy summer with Jadon Sancho already arriving and a deal for Raphael Varane agreed in principle.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to get closer to last season’s runaway Premier League winners Manchester City.
