Newcastle United are confident of agreeing a mega-money new contract with Bruno Guimaraes, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder is on the radar of Europe’s elite clubs after making a huge impact since his £40million St James’ Park arrival.

But Newcastle believe Guimaraes, 24, will put pen to paper on a lucrative contract extension in the coming months.

His current £120,000-a-week contract runs until the summer of 2026.

Guimaraes has started 10 of Newcastle's games during an impressive start to their 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

Eddie Howe's side sit fourth after 13 games and further cemented their place in the top four with a 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday (29 October).

Guimaraes has been a key player for the club this term, registering two and two assists in his 10 appearances.

After signing for the club in January, Guimaraes was initially unable to break into the Newcastle side thanks to the form of Jonjo Shelvey, Joelinton and Joe Willock.

However, after scoring on his full debut against Southampton, the midfielder went on to notch another four goals before the end of the 2021-22 season.

Guimaraes is expected to go to the World Cup with Brazil and his performance against Villa was watched in person by the national side's boss Tite.

Newcastle are next in action against Southampton on Sunday (6 November) before they continue their League Cup campaign against Crystal Palace next Wednesday (9 November).
