Tottenham plot eleventh hour swoop for £25m striker after Jorge Mendes fails in PL rivals deal - report

Tottenham are plotting an eleventh hour swoop for Atletico Madrid forward Kevin Gameiro, according to a report.
The Sun claims that Spurs are keen on offering Harry Kane some much-needed support in the goalscoring department and have let Gameiro's camp know they are interested in a last minute loan deal if there is no chance of a permanent switch in the January transfer window.
It is understood that the 30-year-old's agent Jorge Mendes has already failed in negotiating one move this month when the France international snubbed a move to Spurs' Premier League rivals Swansea.
Gameiro was said to have been a £25million target for Swansea until the striker decided he was not keen on a move to south Wales.
Fenerbahce are also reported to have an interest in the former Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla striker, who has fell down the pecking order at Atletico Madrid in the aftermath of Diego Costa's return.

Gameiro would be a decent signing for Tottenham. He would add a lot of qualities that Harry Kane and Fernando Llorente do not have, with pace being the main one. One of Spurs; main weaknesses in attack is the lack of speedy players, but Gameiro can offer that in abundance. Mauricio Pochettino's side is very one dimensional in attack so having a Plan B to be able to mix things up would definitely be a good idea. £25million is a lot of money for a permanent deal though for someone who is the wrong side of 30, so whittling that down slightly or offering a loan deal would be the best way to go.
