Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Norwich attacker James Maddison, according to a report.
The London Evening Standard claims that Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester are also interested in Maddison, 21, but Norwich are reluctant to let him leave Carrow Road this month and have slapped a price tag worth over £20million on his head.
It is understood that Tottenham may be able to pull off a Dele Alli-esque swoop for the England Under-21 international though, which would see them sign him this month and then loan the attacking midfielder back until the end of the campaign – much like how Alli was sent back to MK Dons on a temporary basis.
Spurs have already been in business with Norwich in the current transfer window having sent Marcus Edwards to the Championship on loan on Monday.
Football Insider verdict
Signing Maddison could be a massive risk for Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino excels at bringing young talent to North London and developing them, but at £20million, Maddison costs too much. The England Under-21 international is yet to completely prove himself. Norwich are not battling for promotion as it stands and Maddison has been unable to help drag his team up the table. Loaning him back would make good sense though and could make Norwich consider dropping their asking fee as they would get a few more months of football out of him. But anything over £15million would be a lot, especially with Daniel Levy in charge.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs are joint-favourites to seal a swoop for this goalscoring midfielder in January.
