Erik Lamela wants to be handed a six-year Tottenham contract worth £120,000-a-week, according to a report.

The Mirror claim that Spurs want to reward the 24-year-old for his improvement at the club even though his current deal has another three years to run.

Talks are underway but it is said that Lamela wants a three-year extension on top of the three years he has to run on his current deal.

The Argentina international is holding out for contract worth double his current £60,000-a-week agreement.

Lamela, who became Tottenham's record signing when he signed from Roma for £30million in 2013, spent his first two seasons struggling to adapt to such an extent that father Jose suggested last summer that he was set for a loan move back to Italy.

However, he was an integral player in Mauricio Pochettino's side as they finished third in the Premier League last season and has started three of their four matches of the new campaign.

The Argentine began the new campaign by scoring a brilliant headed equaliser as Tottenham came from a goal down to draw 1-1 at Everton.

In 110 appearance for Spurs, Lamela has scored 18 goals and provided 25 assists, but he was far more effective in 2015-16 and struck 10 times and supplied 11 assists in 44 matches in all competitions.

This was enough for Lamela to earn a spot in Argentina's 2016 Copa America squad, alongside the likes of Lionel Messi.
