Florian Thauvin has told Newcastle that he wants to leave the club this summer after returning from a loan spell with Marseille, according to reports.

The report comes just a day after Football Insider reported Remy Cabella is on the verge of joining Marseille for £6.3million.

Thauvin, 23, arrived on Tyneside from Marseille during last summer’s transfer window for £12million but failed to score or create any league goals before he was loaned back out to the Ligue 1 club for the second half of the 2015-16 campaign.

According to the Chronicle, Thauvin is keen to move away from Tyneside permanently after returning from a loan spell when he played 16 times in the league, scoring twice.

Newcastle were relegated from the Premier League this season and look likely to lose a number of the high-profile signings they have made of the last few years.

Previously this summer, Inter were reported to be interested in Thauvin and that could still be the destination of the France U21, as Marseille can only afford to loan the winger as things stand.

Thauvin has four years remaining on his Newcastle contract and the club could be ready to offload him after he turned out to be one of the flops of the Premier League season.

The winger's League Cup displays left a bittersweet taste of what might have been, as the two appearances he made in the competition saw him notch one and create two strikes for his team mates in just two ties.

However, Thauvin failed to translate that form into the Premier League where the Frenchman made 13 appearances without supplying the decisive pass or finish.
