Former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has posted an emotional farewell to the club on Instagram after joining Southampton.
“Forever grateful to have played a small part at this great club. I will miss you Celtic. Thank you for those unforgettable moments” he said.
Armstrong joined the Hoops from Dundee United in January 2015, and the highlight of his time with the Hoops was the 2016-17 season, where he was a standout performer with 17 goals from midfield.
Football Insider verdict
Stuart Armstrong will, in time, be missed by Hoops fans as much as he claims that he will miss playing for the Scottish champions. He genuinely was an excellent player at times for the Bhoys, and his performances in the Hoops treble winning season of 2016-17 deserve to live long in the memory. It seems like his relationship with a selection of the support was strained following his contract wrangles with the Hoops, but he deserves to be remembered for his actions on the pitch and not off the pitch. Brendan Rodgers made the player a mainstay in his side until he needed a hernia operation and if Armstrong was good enough for the manager who has delivered back to back trebles he is good enough for the fans to give him their best wishes as he aims to make it in the Premier League. Hoops fans will be watching on with interest, to see if he can make the jump in quality.
