Frank Lampard: This is where reported Tottenham top summer target should play next season
By Harvey Byrne
Former midfielder and Saturday’s Match of the Day pundit Frank Lampard has urged reported Tottenham target Ross Barkley to remain at Everton.
Barkley, 23, has been in and out form for Ronald Koeman this season and with his contract nearing it’s final year, reports from the Mirror have stated that Spurs have made him their top summer target.
Now, Tottenham are currently three places and 14 points above Everton in the league with the two clubs holding different targets before the season’s end.
However, Premier League great Lampard believes that Barkley would be better off staying at the Toffees next season and getting a consistent year under his belt.
“I like him (Barkley),” started Lampard speaking on Saturday evening’s Match of the Day.

“I think we’re probably in the danger in this country of over analysing our young English players. We want so much from them, but he is entering the stage now where he’s a man and not a boy.
“In terms of staying at Everton or moving on, I think for me he needs a consistent season. He needs to play at the level he plays at today consistently through a year.
“He’s a bit fazey sometimes, but for talent, he’s got it. I’d like to see him stay at Everton and have that good year behind him.”
Lampard says Barkley is now a man and not a boy.

Barkley made his debut for Everton back in 2011 and was considered one of the brightest prospects in England at the time.
However, six years later he is still learning the game and has managed to return nine assists and four goals in 31 Premier League appearances this season.
Everton fans will now be hoping he extends his deal past 2018, while Mauricio Pochettino will be licking his lips at his ever decreasing value if he doesn’t agree a new contract.
