”From What I’m Hearing’ – Sunderland are keen on signing Harvey Elliott

Liverpool could have interest from Sunderland in Harvey Elliott as the midfielder looks to reignite his career next season.

That is what former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has heard as Elliott’s loan spell at Aston Villa comes to an end.

The 23-year-old’s loan deal will not become permanent after he made just nine appearances in all competitions for Aston Villa this season.

A £35million obligation to buy had been included in the loan agreement, but Emery confirmed in January that the club had no desire to sign Elliott.

Elliott is expected to leave Liverpool this summer, and his contract at Anfield expires in 2027, and the club would not want to let him go for free.

Harvey Elliott’s Aston Villa spell prompts call for ‘change in the regulations’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Elliott’s loan spell at Villa Park means their relationship with Liverpool has been “burnt.”

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Elliott could join either Sunderland or one of the three promoted clubs this summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think Villa will get the benefit of the doubt.

“That bridge is burnt now and Elliott can shine. Some of the promoted clubs, possibly even Sunderland, is something I’ve been hearing as to where he might be going.

“We’ll see where that all ends up, but it’s been a very sad episode and one that should have been corrected in some way.

“There must have been a way for authorities to have given exceptions in cases like this and there’s got to be a change in the regulations if there isn’t.”

Liverpool set Harvey Elliott price tag amid Premier League interest

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds could be a possible destination for Elliott this summer.

Liverpool are expected to listen to offers of around £25m for Elliott, and Leeds manager Daniel Farke has expressed his desire for the club to be ambitious in the market.

Leeds do want to add to their forward ranks as they look to challenge for a top half Premier League finish, and possible European football next season.

The futures of Dan James and Willy Gnonto are both uncertain heading into the summer, and Elliott can operate out wide as well as in the number 10 role.
