Alvaro Arbeloa has fallen into 'trap' that could cost him Fulham job

Published on:

Alvaro Arbeloa has not helped himself at Fulham with his comments to the media amid circulating talk of his possible dismissal.

That is according to experienced former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The Craven Cottage side hired the Spaniard in the summer, following Marco Silva's departure to manage Benfica.

Losing the Portuguese manager was a significant loss, and so far Arbeloa has completely missed the mark in replacing him.

The former Real Madrid interim manager is now on the verge of possibly losing his job.

And he has been told he has been his own enemy after falling into a managerial trap at Fulham.

How Alvaro Arbeloa has fallen into a trap at Fulham

It will take something special for Arbeloa to turn things around at the London side with pressure mounting on top of him.

Fulham are bottom of the Premier League, and are one of three sides yet to win a game, alongside Tottenham and Bournemouth.

Arbeloa came in with a clear plan for his style of play, and so far it has not worked, with his ego seemingly getting in the way.

"I see that he's already fallen into the trap of praising himself for what he's done. He's been talking about his coaching," King told Football Insider.

"He says that he's been coaching the best team in the world, and he played for the best team in the world.

"But that don't mean anything. When you ain't getting results, those things don't even come into a supporter's mind. Results are the bottom line, whether you're at Fulham, Liverpool or Man City.

"I don't think Fulham have been in a position so low in the Premier League for a long, long time."

Fulham fixture swing could hand Arbeloa breathing room

The Fulham manager needs to get a win under his belt, and that will provide plenty of breathing room for him.

Luckily, the fixtures are looking fairly kind for the Spaniard over the coming weeks, although after losing to Ipswich, he will be aware there are no easy games.

In the next two Premier League matchdays, Fulham will host Hull at Craven Cottage, before travelling to face Coventry City.

That will be three games against the promoted sides coming in succession.

If he comes out with fewer than six points, it could ultimately spell the end of his time at Fulham.
