Fulham to 'replace' Arbeloa with manager who left Nottingham Forest in 2026

Fulham are considering Vitor Pereira as a leading candidate to become their next manager if Alvaro Arbeloa is sacked.

The 58-year-old left Nottingham Forest under controversial circumstances in July, when he had his contract terminated in favour of Oliver Glasner arriving at the City Ground.

However, he remains extremely highly regarded after the work he did to lead both Forest and Wolves away from relegation during his two stints in the Premier League.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Pereira is now seen as the ideal candidate to take over at Fulham if they decide to make a change.

Arbeloa is coming under intense pressure at Craven Cottage as his side remain winless after six Premier League games following a late defeat against Ipswich last time out.

Should Fulham opt to pull the trigger on Arbeloa in the near future, Pereira's impressive track record and current availability have placed him high on their list.

Could Vitor Pereira be the next Fulham manager?

Football Insider reported in July that Nottingham Forest fans were left raging at the news at Pereira had been sacked, with questions being asked about the decision.

The boss took over at the City Ground in February and lost just three of his 12 Premier League games, guided them away from relegation and reached the Europa League semi-final.

Fulham are now eyeing him as the ideal replacement for Arbeloa if they are forced into a decision, with the West London outfit already staring down the barrel of relegation.

"If Fulham are going to sack Arbeloa, they have to know who they're going to turn to next," Brown told Football Insider.

"There will be a number of names on their list already because it hasn't been that long since they brought him in, there will have been other options they considered.

"The ideal candidate at the moment would be Vitor Pereira, because he's available after leaving Nottingham Forest where he did a really impressive job.

"He took them from the relegation zone and guided them to safety, did similar with Wolves the year before, so he could be exactly what Fulham need in their situation."

When will Alvaro Arbeloa be sacked by Fulham?

Arbeloa has long been tipped to become the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season after what has been a disastrous start to his tenure at Craven Cottage.

After a 2-1 defeat against newly-promoted Ipswich last time out, in a game they led until the 88th minute, the Craven Cottage hierarchy are now losing patience with the manager.

Brown told Football Insider that Arbeloa could now be sacked by the end of the month, with the board being tempted into a decision as a result of their miserable start.

Fulham currently sit bottom of the Premier League table without a win from six games, and are staring down the barrel of a relegation battle which could be a "disaster".

Should Arbeloa's side continue to struggle in their next fixtures, there is a growing feeling his position will become untenable as he is also losing the backing of the fans.
