Fulham tipped to sack Alvaro Arbeloa - and this is when
Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa is still unlikely to last beyond the November international break despite his team’s recent back-to-back wins.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Cottagers are already “looking over their shoulder” at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Wyness believes that the Fulham hierarchy have been slightly concerned by the strength of the three newly-promoted clubs, and are likely to pull the trigger on Arbeloa sooner rather than later.
The capital club face some pivotal games in the coming weeks, with another international break then approaching on the horizon.
Tricky meetings with Aston Villa and Newcastle United are in store ahead of the mid-November break, and both are likely to be crucial to settling Arbeloa's future.
Fulham caught in risky situation
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that it may be too much of a risk for Fulham to keep Arbeloa in his job for much longer.
The Premier League relegation battle appears to be wide open this season, and that will cause clubs like Fulham to think very carefully in the coming weeks.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained why he still hasn’t changed his opinion that Arbeloa will be sacked in November.
“I still don't expect Arbeloa to last later than November. I think the move will happen in the next international break in November,” he said.
“It's just too much at risk for Shahid Khan in terms of any potential relegation drift. Look, we've seen it already. This year the promoted clubs are doing okay, and it's going to be a real battle.
“So clubs are already looking over their shoulder this early in the season and Fulham are definitely one. We did predict it right at the start of the season. We said he would be the one that would be a problem, and it's proven to be the case.”
Vitor Pereira keen to take Fulham job
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that ex-Nottingham Forest and Wolves boss Vitor Pereira is keen to take the Fulham job.
The Portuguese steered Forest safely clear of the relegation zone last season, before being unceremoniously replaced by Oliver Glasner in the summer.
Brown believes that Pereira is looking to get back into Premier League management as soon as possible, and would definitely be open to taking the reins at Craven Cottage.
The 58-year-old has been heavily linked with the job in recent days, and is likely to be in the frame if Arbeloa is sacked.
