Vitor Pereira 'sets sights on Fulham job' after Alvaro Arbeloa news

Vitor Pereira is keen to return to the Premier League amid links with a move to replace Alvaro Arbeloa at Fulham.

The 58-year-old was sacked as Nottingham Forest boss during the summer as they opted to bring in Oliver Glasner, and is keen to make a quick return to a role in the top flight.

He is believed to be casting an eye over a number of potential roles as things stand, with multiple top bosses at risk of losing their jobs.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Pereira would be interested in the Fulham job but will have reservations about the quality of the squad.

Following their 1-0 win against Hull City last time out, Arbeloa may have bought himself time from the board, but failure to put together a strong run could see him dismissed.

Should they fail to build on their latest win, Fulham could be forced into a decision, with Pereira now believed to be waiting in the wings in case he receives a call.

Could Fulham move to appoint Vitor Pereira?

Brown told Football Insider on 13 October that Fulham view Pereira as the leading candidate to replace Arbeloa and are likely to move for him if they make a change.

He remains extremely highly regarded after the work he did to lead both Forest and Wolves away from relegation during his two stints in the Premier League.

Arbeloa remains under pressure despite Fulham's recent victory, and Pereira is also believed to be keen on the job, with a return to English football in mind.

"I'm told Vitor Pereira will be looking to return to the Premier League as soon as possible," Brown told Football Insider.

"He can't have been happy with the way things ended at Nottingham Forest, he did an excellent job there and was only let go because they wanted to go in a new direction.

"That hasn't exactly gone swimmingly for them so far, but Pereira is still highly rated because he's done will in his Premier League jobs.

"So I don't doubt there are clubs looking at him, and he will be keeping an eye on the situations at a few different clubs, because there are a few managers under pressure.

"Fulham is the one being spoken about the most if they decide to sack Arbeloa, because it makes the most sense for them to turn to Pereira, but we'll have to wait and see."

Fulham sources: Update on Alvaro Arbeloa's future

What is the latest on Alvaro Arbeloa's future?

Speculation about Pereira becoming the next Fulham boss has grown over the last week, with many expecting Arbeloa to become the first Premier League boss to lose his job.

However, after a win against Hull City, there is optimism that the boss can put a run together and save his position, delaying any talk that his departure could be imminent.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 15 October that Arbeloa retains the backing of the Fulham hierarchy, who maintain that he is the right man to lead the club forwards.

Sources say the boss' position will be assessed properly during the November international break, and there is optimism that their results will improve by then.

Fulham will face Coventry City next, the third of the trio of newly-promoted sides, to cap off a run which they had targeted as a source of points at the start of the season.
