Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has been very active in his new job at Ibrox, making a host of signings as he attempts to get the Gers back to the top of the Scottish Premiership.
However, as yet he has not made that one, colossal signing which would send a message to Scottish football that the Gers mean business.
However, there is now a player available who could be that signing that would take the Gers over the top – Liverpool’s Danny Ings.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Ings wants to leave his current club Liverpool to play football on a regular basis.
The Merseyside club offered him a new deal, but he will not be signing it as he isn’t guaranteed regular game at Anfield.
Now there is no doubt that clubs in the Premier League will be interested in the player, but if Gerrard could engineer an Ibrox reunion with the England international it would be a gigantic statement of intent.
The Gers won’t be favourites to sign the player, as clubs down south have far more money, but they won’t offer Ings the chance to become a legend overnight, by helping the Gers back to the summit of Scottish football.
On the face of it Ings moving to Ibrox might seem unlikely, but if there is someone who can make it happen, it is Gerrard.
