Steven Gerrard would be a great appointment for Aston Villa as they set their sights on luring him from Rangers.

That’s according to former Celtic and Aston Villa striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Gerrard’s future.

This site revealed on Thursday (8th April) that Villa sources have said chief executive Christian Purslow has a “strong interest” in bringing Gerrard to the Midlands.

McAvennie claims Villa are a huge club with similar stature to Rangers and that Gerrard would seriously consider a move to the midlands.

When asked if he thought Gerrard would be interested in a move to Aston Villa, McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, “Oh god, yeah.

“People don’t understand this, Rangers are a big club and of course Celtic are a massive club.

“But if he wants to go to the Premier League, Aston Villa is a huge club.

“I think he’ll want Liverpool which I can’t see for a couple of years because Klopp won’t go but if they don’t start winning he might go sooner than that.

“He’s got a good management team around him and he’s got a bit about him, Stevie Gerrard.

“He’s got time because he’s got such a reputation in the game and whatever he does next is up to him.”

Gerrard recently wrote himself into Ibrox legend by picking up his first trophy as a manager, wrestling the Scottish Premiership title back from Celtic at the third attempt.

This season could get even better for the Gers are they are still in the Scottish Cup with Celtic standing between them and a spot in the quarter-finals.
