Gerry Francis: This Tottenham first teamer has been fantastic this season (not Alli or Kane)

Former Tottenham boss Gerry Francis has hailed current first team player Victor Wanyama as “fantastic” following his debut season at the club.
The 25-year-old midfield enforcer joined the north London side from Southampton in the summer for a fee of £12.5million which saw him re-link with boss Mauricio Pochettino.
He has since become an ever-present in the Spurs first team, forming a brilliant partnership with Mousa Dembele in the centre of the park and has helped bolster an already impressive defensive unit.
Now, with four matches remaining of the Premier League campaign Francis has hailed the importance of Wanyama in the Tottenham team and has called him a “shrewd purchase.”
“Yeah, very important,” started Francis on Sky Sports News’ Premier League Daily show on Wednesday morning.

“I think he was a shrewd purchase. He’s the protection along with Dembele normally.
“He’s the protection really in front of the back four. He’s the one who wins the ball back, a bit like (N’golo) Kante at Chelsea. Gives it to the Eriksen’s of this world and Dele Alli and certainly has done a fantastic job patrolling in front of the back four and he’s important to them.”
Tottenham have a number of high quality players across the pitch and many of their individuals are worthy of receiving praise.
However, it is usually attacking duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli who receive the most plaudits with a stunning return of 38 Premier League goals this season.
But, the defence must not be forgotten about either and players such as Wanyama have helped the club boast the best record in the English top-flight with just 22 conceded from 34 encounters.
In other Tottenham news, this Premier League right-back has stated he’s a big fan of Pochettino.
