Premier League right-back Phil Bardsley has revealed that he has now become a “big Tottenham fan” because of the manner in which they have played this season.
The Stoke City defender was part of the Mark Hughes side that was thrashed 4-0 at White Hart Lane in February.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team are chasing the Premier League title this season as they are currently four points behind leaders Chelsea in the table.
They take on West Ham on Friday evening knowing three points could close the gap on their rivals, who play Middlesbrough three days later.
Speaking to the Premier League Daily Show, which aired on Sky Sports News on Wednesday morning, Bardsley also raved about Spurs boss Pochettino.
“On the eye, I am a big Spurs fan,” Bardsley told Sky Sports. “I have been on the receiving end of a couple of 4-0 defeats in the last 18 months off them.
“They have some fantastic young British players, they move the ball well, they are well organised and they have a fantastic young manager leading them.”
Former Manchester United academy product Bardsley has played 17 games in all competitions this season.
One of those games includes Spurs’ 4-0 win against Bardsley’s team, with the Salford-born defender playing at right-back during that encounter.
Striker Harry Kane netted a brilliant first-half hat-trick, with attacking midfielder Dele Alli also getting on the scoresheet.
At this moment in time, Stoke are 12th in the Premier League table on 40 points from their 35 matches as they will take on a free-scoring Bournemouth team at the weekend.
Hughes’ side are four points off eighth-placed West Brom with three matches of the season remaining.
