Golden Boot winner: Celtic can challenge Rangers all the way after what I've seen from Furuhashi
Kevin Phillips claims the signing of Kyogo Furuhashi has given Celtic the chance to have a successful season.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the Japan international’s recent goal glut.
Furuhashi, 26, scored two in the first half and one in the second as the Hoops smashed Dundee 6-0.
That came just days after the striker opened his Celtic account on his first start for the club.
Phillips insists a clinical forward like Furuhashi gives Celtic the chance to compete with Rangers this season.
“It doesn’t get any better than that,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“As a manager bringing in a striker, you bring him in to do one thing and one thing only, score goals.
“From my experience, it’s always good to get that monkey off your back and off to a good start.
“Then to follow that up with a hattrick, wow, that’s amazing.
“Playing for Celtic you will get chances. If you have a good striker, eight or nine times out of ten he will take them.
“It’s not been a great start from Celtic but when you have a striker who can score you have a chance to win any game of football.
“It’s now the other areas they need to look at in the last days of this transfer window.
“But with a striker that good, Celtic have a chance of doing well and competing with Rangers this season.”
Celtic have now won their last three games after an initially poor start to the season.
They are next in action against Hearts on Sunday.
