Goldson tipped to 'shine' for Nottingham Forest after newspaper's Rangers update - pundit
Noel Whelan has tipped Connor Goldson to “shine” in the Championship if he completes a move away from Rangers this month.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old would be a “perfect fit” for a club like former Champions League winners Nottingham Forest.
According to The Scottish Sun (23 January), Forest and West Brom are in pursuit of Rangers defender Goldson – who is free to talk to interested foreign sides with his Ibrox deal expiring this summer.
The Gers have already moved to draft in a potential replacement for the Englishman, with John Souttar penning a pre-contract agreement ahead of a move from Hearts.
Whelan claimed Goldson could complete a “brilliant move” if he can help a potential new club in their promotion push.
“The Championship is a step up from the Scottish Premiership, there’s no doubt about it,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’ll be playing in some really important games and will be just one step away from the Premier League.
“Nottingham Forest is a great club with a lot of history. They’ve got a manager who has turned their fortunes around and got them fighting for promotion.
“If they’re in the Premier League next season, it could prove to be a brilliant move. If not, then it’s still not the worst move in the world.
“He’ll shine through in the Championship. I think he’d be a perfect fit for a club like Forest.”
Both West Brom and Forest are in the promotion hunt in England’s second tier, with the clubs sitting fifth and eighth respectively.
Rangers are four points clear of Celtic atop the Scottish Premiership.
The transfer window slams shut at 11pm on 31 January.
