Goncalo Ramos: Newcastle set sights on PSG star as transfer ‘priority’ revealed
Goncalo Ramos is growing increasingly likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer with Newcastle United among his strong admirers.
The 24-year-old has struggled for minutes under Luis Enrique this season given the strength of the PSG front three and is keen to move on in search of playing time.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are determined to strengthen up front amid concerns about the long-term futures of both Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade at St James’ Park.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle scouts will be tracking Ramos as their interest has lingered from last summer.
The Magpies are long-term admirers of the Portugal international and despite deciding against a move last summer, he could now be part of Newcastle’s transfer plans.

Brown told Football Insider during last summer’s transfer window that Ramos was a transfer target for Newcastle and would have been open to the move.
The Magpies were keeping a close eye on his situation as they ramped up efforts to replace Alexander Isak, but ultimately chose to pursue other targets.

However, their interest has not faded and they have watched his performances for PSG closely this season, as he could finally make the move to the Premier League.
“Newcastle could make a move for Goncalo Ramos,” Brown told Football Insider.
“They were interested in him last summer before they decided to go with the two they brought in, but now they’re not happy with them.
“So they will have been watching Ramos this season, how he’s played for PSG and whether he might be available, and now they could make a move.
“He’s somebody they’ve liked for a while so if they are made aware of his availability, they could follow up that interest when the transfer window opens.
“Ultimately, Newcastle want to sign a new striker and they’re looking at a number of options in that position for when the window opens. That’s their priority.
“So if there’s somebody who they have liked for a while, and they think they could get a deal done, it would make a lot of sense to revisit that.”
Which other strikers are on Newcastle’s shortlist?
Ramos is far from the only striker on Newcastle’s shortlist as the position has become a clear priority with their current options failing to meet expectations.
A number of options were considered last summer and have remained in the Magpies’ sights as they could now revisit some of their long-term transfer targets.

Brown told Football Insider on 29 April that Newcastle are interested in signing Nicolas Jackson as he prepares to return to Chelsea after his loan spell at Bayern Munich.
Despite opting against a move for the Senegal international last summer when there were concerns about his attitude, they could now be prepared to take the gamble.
After what has been a mixed spell with the Bundesliga champions, he has his sights set on a permanent move elsewhere, with Newcastle a leading contender.
