Paul Robinson has insisted the appointment of Steven Gerrard as Rangers manager has had a huge impact on improving the club's standing in the game.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and England goalkeeper says that interest in the Glasgow giants has soared since the Liverpool legend's first foray into management.

Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has claimed that Gerrard's position at Ibrox sees directors, scouts and other senior figures from other clubs come to Ibrox on a regular basis.

Robinson says that everything that is happening at Rangers is positive for the club right now and that Gerrard has been a big part of that.

Robinson told Football Insider: "The club's got a huge profile as it is but all of a sudden, since Steven Gerrard's been there, the profile of Rangers south of the border has increased tenfold.

"Everybody's interested in how his transition into management is going to go and the resurgence and re-emergence of Rangers, if you like. With both coinciding, it's obviously going to make a lot headlines and it's only going to be good for the club.

"I think everything at Rangers is pointing in the right direction at the moment. I think the way the club's been run, the manager that's in and his staff, the squad he's assembled, it's a really good time to be a Rangers fan."

Ahead of Wednesday night's clash against Hibernian, the Light Blues sit seven points behind table-toppers Celtic, having played a game less than their Glasgow rivals.

They suffered their second loss of the Premiership season to Hearts at the end of January, their first coming against the Hoops back in 2019.
