'What are you doing?' - Kevin Phillips blasts player for costing Rangers in title race
Kevin Phillips claims Alfredo Morelos is costing Rangers in their title bid with his ill-discipline this season.
The former Sunderland and West Brom striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, said the 23-year-old’s behaviour is even more important with Jermaine Defoe injured.
Defoe is set for a spell on the sidelines with a calf injury he sustained against Ross County.
Morelos missed two fixtures in January, including a 2-1 loss to Hearts, following his sending off in Rangers 2-1 victory over Celtic at the back end of 2019.
When asked if the striker’s discipline was more pertinent given the injury to Defoe, Phillips told Football Insider: “You do not want to take aggression away from players. You need to channel it in the right direction and control it.
“What you are doing when you keep making rash decisions is letting your teammates down.

“Rangers are now seven points behind Celtic and decisions like that can cost you. Things like that can really hurt you and with Defoe getting injured it is important that he stays fit and disciplined.
“There are so many people in the background who can help you now but ultimately it has to come from the player. He needs to concentrate on what he does best – score goals. If he does that Rangers will run Celtic all the way until the end of the season.”
The Gers fell further behind in the title race last weekend as they shared a goalless draw with Aberdeen at Ibrox.
The Hoops, who have played one more than their rivals, are now 7 points clear of Steven Gerrard’s side after they ran out 4-1 winner at Hamilton.
