Sky Sports’ Spanish expert Guillem Balague believes the entourage of Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho is “clearly” working to move him to Barcelona.
The 24-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder has been heavily linked to the Spanish giants for a long time now, but Balague believes that the Catalan club don’t want him due to cost and not needing a player of Coutinho’s position.
The Sky Sports correspondent told last week that he was convinced that Barcelona were not interested in making a move for the Reds’ ace.
Now, a week later and Balague has explained that it has now became a weekly question as to whether Barcelona are seriously interested and he believes the constant links are due to Coutinho’s entourage.
“This has turned into a weekly question. His entourage is clearly working to move him to the Nou Camp. There are different reasons why Barca will not go for him,” wrote Balague for the Sky Sports website.
“One is the cost and the other is they think he’s a forward rather than a midfielder. And of course they are completely sorted in attack.
“They are looking for a different type of midfielder. Nobody doubts Coutinho’s quality but Barcelona don’t have the money to be getting three or four top players for their first-choice line-up.”
Coutinho has now been at Liverpool for more than four years after joining from Italian giants Inter Milan for an £8.5million fee in January 2013.
He has since competed in 180 matches for the Merseyside giants, returning 41 goals and returning 37 assists.
The playmaker is a key player for Jurgen Klopp’s third placed side and fans will be hoping he sees out the five years left on his contract and more in the future.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the odds have been slashed on the Reds signing this 23-year-old.
