Leeds United are expected to miss out on signing Gustavo Hamer in this transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Sheffield United are expected to price Hamer “out of a move” for the central midfielder.

However, the Blades don’t want to strengthen Leeds as they’re seen as potential promotion rivals this season.

It is believed from Leeds sources that a deal for Hamer is likely to prove difficult for the Whites as there is “no real willingness” on Sheffield United’s behalf to do business with them.

Sources claim that Leeds will probably have to move on and look at other targets before the transfer window closes.

Leeds United want to add Gustavo Hamer to their squad

The central midfielder caught the eye of the West Yorkshire giants after an impressive individual campaign last season despite the Blades being relegated from the Premier League.

Hamer scored five times in all competitions and provided eight assists, playing all but two of their Premier League fixtures.

Hamer has continued in that vein so far this season by scoring two goals and providing one assist in Sheffield United’s opening five fixtures.

The Dutch midfielder is under contract at Bramall Lane until 2027, placing his club under no pressure to sell him in this window.

Sheffield United have also been fielding offers for Auston Trusty in the final week of the window from Celtic.
