Hammers senior man delivers update on striker loan move as PL giants circle

Andy Carroll has been linked with a shock move to Chelsea during the January transfer window but Hammers assistant Alan Irvine has insisted that the player is vital to the Irons quest for Premier League survival.
The striker, 29, is gathering interest from the Blues, who see the hitman as an ideal partner up front for Alvaro Morata.
Spanish forward, Morata, has been accused of failing to hold up the ball in attack since his move from Real Madrid in the summer.
However, David Moyes assistant Irvine said that the Carroll is part of their ‘long-term plans,’ and sees no reasons for the north-east native to seek pastures new.
“I certainly hope Andy will be a player here at the end of the month,” said Irvine in The Sun.
“I don’t think we have had any offers in terms of taking him on loan and I don’t think the club would entertain him going out on loan.
“He is part of our long-term plans. It is a real shame that we have not had him since he scored the two goals against West Brom.
The physical hitman has been missing from the Irons line-up since picking up an injury after scoring his first two league goals of the season in his side’s victory against West Bromwich Albion at the start of January.
Talking in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by Sky Sports transfer blog (13.46), Chelsea manager Antonio Conte distanced himself from a Sanchez move, saying “I don’t think so” when asked if Chelsea were trying to sign him.
Football Insider verdict:
The Blues by all accounts want Carroll on a loan basis until the end of the season. West Ham do not appear to be interested in a loan deal which means that unless Roman Abramovich can stump up a fee for the player, this deal is dead in the water. There have been some suggestions that the Hammers are losing patience with the amount of injuries the striker seems to incur but that also begs the question as to what Chelsea would want with the perennially sidelined forward. Carroll may well be keen on a move the Stamford Bridge but this transfer is a non-starter as a loan.
