Harry Maguire will wait until Erik ten Hag is sacked by Man United before making a decision about his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke explained that the centre-back is keen to assess whether he will play an increased role under a new boss after Ten Hag's exit.

Maguire, 31, is set to see his current contract at Old Trafford expire at the end of the season as things stand, and no talks have taken place over a new deal.

However, amid growing uncertainty over the manager's position, the England international will not rush into any decisions until the manager's future is confirmed.

The centre-back has started just three Premier League games so far this season, but was called upon to start with Jonny Evans at the back and kept a clean sheet v Aston Villa.

That came days after his last-minute header earned United a point against Porto in the Champions League, and he still feels he could play a role for the club.

With Ten Hag reportedly leading the push for the defender's exit, there is every chance the manager could leave before he gets to make the decision.

Pressure on Ten Hag's job has continued to grow, with the club having gone without a win in their last five games and sitting 14th in the Premier League table.

United have picked up just two wins from their opening seven Premier League games, and fell to heavy 3-0 defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham, both at Old Trafford.

Despite the board handing the manager a new contract in the wake of last season's FA Cup victory, there is increasing speculation that his job is now back on the line.

Several managers have also been linked with the job including Eddie Howe, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Michael Carrick as the board begin to weigh up their options.

With pressure growing, it appears it will likely be one of the new managers in the running who is given the task of deciding Maguire's future at Old Trafford.

The player will seek assurances about his playing time and role at the club after falling out of favour under Ten Hag.
