Hause tipped for rare league start as Aston Villa defender ruled out - Phillips

Kevin Phillips has tipped Kortney Hause to replace Axel Tuanzebe in the Aston Villa starting XI against Manchester United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Claret and Blue striker suggested Hause, 26, has played his way into Dean Smith’s side following his performance at Chelsea in the EFL Cup.

Villa will be without summer loan signing Tuanzebe for the trip to Man United on Saturday as he is ineligible to play against his parent club.

The centre-half has started Villa’s last three Premier League fixtures in a back three alongside Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa.

Smith could revert to a back four in Tuanzebe’s absence or call upon Hause.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Saturday’s team selection, Phillips said:

“Hause did very well against Chelsea so I expect him to come in at the weekend for Tuanzebe.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Dean Smith just sticks with a back five and brings in Hause as that natural replacement because Villa have looked good in that system.

“They have been creating a lot of opportunities playing that way and of course scored three against Everton, which was a great result. There has been some encouraging signs from Villa over the past week.

“Hause is an experienced player and has minutes under his belt now so I think he’ll come straight into the starting lineup against Man United.”

Hause has featured just once for Villa in the Premier League this season.

He appeared as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw with Brentford last month.
