Paul Robinson has lauded Martin Dubravka “one of the best signings” Newcastle United have made in their recent history and hailed the club for securing him to a new long-term contract.
The former England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted the 31-year-old has been the Magpies’ Player of the Year with only Alisson, Emerson and David De Gea better than him in the Premier League.
Dubravka told NUFC TV that he is “100 per cent ready” for the visit of Sheffield United this Sunday in spite of the knee ligament damage he suffered in March after a collision with Danny Ings.
The Slovakia international put pen to paper on a six-year deal at St. James’ Park last October and was in outstanding form for Steve Bruce’s side earlier this season.
The Magpies’ number one has kept nine clean sheets in 29 Premier League appearances so far this campaign.
When asked by Football Insider how big a boost his return was ahead of the final nine games, Robinson said: “That is huge for them.
“He is one of the best signings they have made in a long time and definitely their player of the season.
“They took him on loan originally but signed him permanently at the first opportunity and it has proved to be a great decision.
“There is your Alisson, Ederson and De Gea bracket but Dubravka is top of the bracket just below it.”
Dubravka told NUFC TV: “Obviously, I’ve done different movements so the first week for me was strange.
“But it is now (after three weeks training) and I don’t even need to think about it.
“I am glad that I am 100% ready and ready to be on the pitch.”
In other Newcastle United news, Kevin Phillips has told Football Insider he is “disappointed” as Premier League prepare to speak to club.
