Paul Robinson has claimed Willian would rather join Tottenham ahead of his other suitors this summer.
The Brazil international is in line for blockbuster summer offer after running down his contract at Chelsea, which expires at the end of the season.
Football Insider understands that Spurs have offered a lucrative long-term contract to Willian, 31, as they look to win the race for his signature.
The attacking midfielder has also been linked with another of Chelsea’s big rivals Arsenal as well as Newcastle United if their takeover goes through.
Former Spurs and England goalkeeper Robinson is in no doubt that Willian would be a great signing and believes his strong link to Jose Mourinho makes it a very likely deal.
“Willian will not come cheap wages-wise,” he exclusively told Football Insider. “He’s a player that has a great relationship with Mourinho.
“If he wants to stay in London and Tottenham was an option for him, you would imagine, from what I know, he wants to join Tottenham and they would be his first choice.
“I do not think it would take long for him to win over the Spurs fans. A lot of Spurs fans would take him with open arms because he is a top-class player.”
Willian has been in dazzling form since the Premier League restart, scoring four goals and providing two assists in his side’s five matches, four of which they have won.
He has admitted talks with Chelsea over an extension have stalled as they have offered a two-year deal rather than the three-year contract he is seeking.
