Hearts fans panic over Lawrence Shankland contract ‘disaster’ as Rangers line up deal
Hearts supporters have been sent into panic mode by the news that Rangers are lining up a fresh swoop for striker Lawrence Shankland in the coming days.
The Gers were heavily linked with a move for the 30-year-old last summer, but he ultimately stayed put at Tynecastle and starred yet again in their push for the Scottish Premiership title.
However, there is now growing speculation that the veteran may have already played his final game for the Jambos, with Rangers lining up a move for him before he heads to the World Cup with Scotland.
Danny Rohl and the Gers’ recruitment team have already identified the frontman as one of their key targets for the upcoming window, and are ready to try and take him to Ibrox after several years of speculation.
Rangers’ are planning to swoop for Shankland imminently, and Hearts supporters are in uproar over a detail that could leave their club powerless to prevent their captain’s departure.

Shankland eventually penned a new three-year deal to stay at Tynecastle last summer, as Rangers were thwarted after several months of speculation that they could make a move for him.
That new contract should have given Hearts long-term security regarding the striker’s future, as it would have enabled them to net a big fee for him if they chose to sell at any stage.

However, their fans are now speculating that the final two years of that agreement came as an option for Shankland to take up if he desired, with many suggesting that he has opted not to take up that clause.
That could leave Rangers able to sign the frontman on a free transfer this summer, a prospect that has sent the Hearts faithful into a frenzy on X.
TV and radio presenter Ewen Cameron has backed up the suggestions regarding Shankland’s contract, while several other supporters are convinced of the two-year option.
One Hearts fan has labelled the contract situation as “crazy” from their club’s perspective, while another has made it clear that it would be a “disaster” if Shankland were to leave.

- @rhysjjack: “It’s his agent wanting a payday.”
- @SPFLpyramid: “Gut punch, if Hearts don’t even get a fee.”
Shankland move to mark start of Rangers overhaul
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Rangers will look to overhaul their squad ahead of next season, after they failed to secure a spot in qualifying for the Champions League.
Rohl and the recruitment team are set to receive significant backing from the ownership once again, despite their season ending with multiple major blows following the league split.
Significant departures are also expected at Ibrox, with some players understood to be keen to explore the possibility of a move elsewhere after struggling to break into Rohl’s plans.
It looks set to be a busy summer of activity for the Gers in the transfer market, and a move for Shankland could only be the start of their summer additions.
