Darren Bent believes West Ham could make a fantastic signing by adding Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge to their books.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-England international revealed he knows the Cardiff keeper very well as the pair were at Fulham together.
Football Insider previously revealed the Hammers had submitted a bid for Etheridge following Lukasz Fabianski suffering an injury.
The Hammers recently confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Darren Randolph but despite this, Bent still believes signing Etheridge would be a fantastic move.
However, the former striker did suggest that the Hammers looking to the Championship to solve their goalkeeping issues, highlighted a real lack of top-quality keepers.
When asked about West Ham bidding on Etheridge, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah I know Neil really well, I was at Fulham with him.
“He’s a good character, good goalkeeper, really dedicated at what he does.
“And yeah he’d be a fantastic signing.
“At the moment, it just highlights the real lack of top-quality goalkeepers that are out there, I think Etheridge is good…”
The 29-year-old has played 16 times across all competitions for the Bluebirds this season, conceding 24 goals and keeping four clean sheets.
Etheridge has been with Cardiff since joining from Walsall in July 2017 and is contracted to stay with the Championship club until 2021.
The experienced shot-stopper does have Premier League experience, having previously played 38 times in the top-flight.
