Danny Mills has ripped into Sebastien Haller and insisted he’s a been a big let-down at West Ham given his “fabulous” scoring record in Germany.
The former Manchester City and Leeds full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the start the 25-year-old made to the season makes it all the more disappointing.
The striker missed several clear-cut opportunities as the Hammers were made to rue missed chances against Arsenal on Saturday.
Substitute Alexandre Lacazette scoring the only goal of the game after 78 minutes at the Emirates.
Haller signed for The Irons last summer in what was a club-record £45million deal from Eintracht Frankfurt.
When asked whether the former France under-21 international has failed to meet expectations at the London Stadium, Mills told Football Insider: “Yes. It has been a shame because he is an outstanding player with a fabulous goalscoring record in Germany.
“West Ham battered Arsenal, especially in the first half and they should have scored several goals but they did not. The fight and the spirit is there for West Ham and that looks good but when you are dominating a game you expect your number one centre-forward to start putting the ball in the back of the net and when he does not, you are like, ‘Come on!’
“He is coming back from injury so maybe he is a bit rusty and there are extenuating circumstances.
“Considering the way that he started he has been disappointing this season.”
In his debut Premier League season Haller has scored 7 goals in 29 appearances but has only found the net on one of his last 10.
The 1-0 defeat sees David Moyes’s side remain in 16th as relegation rivals Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Watford also lost.
In other West Ham news, Kevin Phillips has told Football Insider the player which causes “mayhem” at the London Stadium.
