Everton signing goalkeeper Robin Olsen on loan from Roma will act as a “wake-up call” for Jordan Pickford, according to Kevin Phillips.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former England striker believes Carlo Ancelotti will not hesitate in replacing the 26-year-old with his new signing.
The Toffees confirmed the loan signing of the Swedish international on deadline day after a string of high-profile areas by Pickford.

Ancelotti said last month that he had “total faith” in the England international and that he was not interested in signing another goalkeeper.
However, after a reported late move for Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero failed, the Toffees moved for Olsen.
Asked by Football Insider what the signing means for Pickford, Phillips said: “I think it’s almost a bit of a kick up the backside for Pickford.
“I would say it’s just a reminder that ‘listen, you’ve had some criticism this season and you’ve cost us some goals if it continues we’ve got Sweden’s number one here who’ll step in and take your place.’
“I’ve always backed Jordan Pickford. I still like the kid, I think he’s got a great attitude.
“Yes, he’s made some mistakes and they’ve been well highlighted. He needs to be more consistent because a few mistakes have crept in and if it continues he’ll find himself out the side.
“Who knows then you could be on the sidelines for ages.
“At the moment, I just see it as a bit of a wake-up call for Jordan that the mistakes need to stop.”
