Huge Tottenham boost: Poch confirms enforcer could play v Huddersfield after positive results
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Jan Vertonghen could return as quickly as the Premier League game against Huddersfield on Saturday.
Pochettino was talking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the FA Cup fifth-round replay.
He said that of the two key Spurs absentees, Vertonghen was in the best shape after “positive” results from his scan.
He said that he would definitely miss the FA Cup clash against Huddersfield, but was a “maybe” for the weekend.
That’s great news for Tottenham fans who must have been fearing the worst with him and Toby Alderweireld missing from action.
The news was reported by Ben Pearce from ESPN.
#thfc Pochettino on Vertonghen & Alderweireld: “Still we don’t know [when they’ll be back]. Jan had a scan and it was positive. He feels much better. For tomorrow, it’s sure [he can’t play] but maybe for the weekend, yes. Toby we need to assess day by day. It’s different to Jan.”

However, the news was not quite so good for Toby Alderweireld.
Tottenham had released an update earlier saying they were short-term injuries but Pochettino said that Alderweireld would need to be assessed day-by-day.
Tottenham have a busy fixture schedule all of their own making with a surprise FA Cup replay against Rochdale coming just three days before they resume their bid for a top-four place in the Premier League on Saturday.
