Huggins capture is impressive from Sunderland, but why are Leeds letting him go? - Phillips
Kevin Phillips has been left impressed with Sunderland Niall Huggins from Leeds United.
The Black Cats legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted this is the kind of signing the supporters want to see.
Football Insider broke the news on 18th August that the League One giants were in advanced talks to sign the versatile full-back, 20.
The deal was then announced last night by Sunderland after Huggins penned a four-year contract.
Phillips insists Lee Johnson now has a deep squad and plenty of players with the hunger and desire to improve.
“Bringing in young players is so refreshing,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I spoke to some supporters last weekend and that’s what they want to see.
“Young players have that hunger, that desire to improve every day.
“The defence needed strengthening and Huggins looks like a boy who has a lot to prove.
“Johnson needed more cover in the side in case of injury and that’s exactly what he’s got.
“Obviously we don’t know too much about him but Sunderland have pulled off some impressive business in recent weeks.
“He’s played for the senior team so you wonder why Leeds are letting him go, what’s happened there?
“Let’s hope Huggins can kick on once he arrives.”
Huggins went on to make his senior debut as a second-half substitute in February’s 4-2 Premier League defeat to Arsenal.
He played the last 37 minutes of the match at right-back but did not add to that solitary appearance.
