Medical booked: Sunderland agree to sign Everton starlet Broadhead - Sources

Everton forward Nathan Broadhead is set to undergo a Sunderland medical after agreeing the terms of a deal, Football Insider understands.

The Black Cats have pounced for the 23-year-old as they look to increase competition for attacking places.

A Sunderland source has told Football Insider that the club have made a breakthrough in talks with Everton and Broadhead will join on a season-long loan.

The deal is expected to be wrapped up in the coming days.

Everton manager Rafael Benitez has given the green light for Broadhead to go out on loan after assessing him during pre-season.

The former Wales Under-21 international was involved with the first team on their pre-season tour of the United States after making his Premier League debut in April of this year.

That was Broadhead’s second senior Everton appearance and was a reward for his regular goalscoring at Under-23s level.

He had a hugely productive Premier League 2 campaign last season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in 18 appearances.

A versatile forward capable of spearheading the attack and playing out wide, Broadhead has scored 17 and assisted seven in 59 Everton matches.

He does have some League One experience after netting three times in 22 appearances for Burton Albion in the 2019-20 season, operating primarily from the wing.

Lee Johnson has made it a priority to strengthen his forward line after losing Charlie Wyke earlier in the summer window.

Ross Stewart has started the new campaign in fine form with a goal in the opening-day win over Wigan Athletic.
