Alan Hutton has claimed Celtic could rival Rangers for the Scottish Premiership title if the signing of Josip Juranovic is completed.

The former Gers man, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, conceded the Hoops have looked "very strong" so far this term.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (August 20th) that Celtic are in talks to sign Legia Warsaw's Juranovic and the latest from a club source today is that he is undergoing a medical in Glasgow.

The fee is expected to be around £2.6million, with manager Ange Postecoglou keen to get the deal over the line before the August 31 deadline.

Anthony Ralston has been in fine form since the start of the Bhoys' season but is currently the club's only right-back.

As such, Hutton believes that cover and competition in the full-back positions will be essential for Celtic to bridge the gap to Old Firm rivals Rangers.

“I think they can be genuine contenders if they can get the right players in," he told Football Insider's Russell Edge.

“They still need competition at full-back, and Juranovic would be a top signing, but they’re looking more solid defensively.

“Joe Hart is going to give you that experience. Welsh coming back in alongside Starfelt has really helped to shore them up.

“They do need players in, but you can really see the team forming over the last couple of weeks.

“From middle to front, they are very strong.

“They’re looking good but if they can get a couple more signings through the door then they are now a real threat to Rangers this season.”

Postecoglou has been active in this summer's window, completing seven signings including the impressive Kyogo Furuhashi.
