Hutton issues 'frightening' Man City verdict after teammate's Julian Alvarez reveal

Alan Hutton has claimed a front two of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez at Man City “is a frightening thought”.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League defender suggested Pep Guardiola will not change his system to accommodate both players.

Haaland and Alvarez have made impressive starts to their Man City careers.

As quoted by Manchester Evening News (10 September), Haaland said his parnership with Alvarez is “really important”.

The Premier League champions welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Etihad on Wednesday (14 September).

When asked by Football Insider‘s Charlotte Cohen if Haaland could be joined by Alvarez against his former side, Hutton said: “It is a frightening thought, the two of them together up front.

“I would not like to be in a back four trying to mark those two.

“If they do that though, they’re changing their whole system and their whole philosophy. They have been playing with one striker for years.

“A wide player would have to sit out, whether that be [Jack] Grealish or [Riyad] Mahrez.

“How would they play? 4-42? It would be interesting to watch.

“We all know Pep, he likes to throw in a curveball every now and again. I cannot see it at this moment in time though.

“Haaland is going to be number one. We will see how it develops but I cannot see it happening in truth.”
