Hutton issues 'massive' Chelsea verdict after Todd Boehly plans revealed

Alan Hutton has backed Chelsea to set up a network of feeder clubs around Europe to improve their development of young players.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League defender said “it is massively important” to have a productive youth set up at a top club like the Blues.

According to The Sun‘s Andy Dillon (10 September), Chelsea want to set up a network of feeder clubs across Europe.

The London club are keen to follow and improve upon the example set by Premier League champions Man City.

Todd Boehly is looking to revamp the whole structure at Stamford Bridge and that is said to include the development of young players.

When asked by Football Insider how important a successful youth set up is to a club like Chelsea, Hutton said: “It is massively important.

“There is nothing better than seeing youth players coming through your academy into the first team. That is ultimately what you want to do. It is the best thing within football.

“To have feeder clubs where you can send players out to get the game time that they need suits everybody involved. If you have a good relationship with a decent team and they have a top young player coming through you can benefit.

“You want to be producing top young players on a regular basis, especially if you are a top club.”
