Alan Hutton has admitted he has serious fears about Steven Gerrard quitting Rangers for a Premier League job this summer.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the prospect of the 41-year-old leaving Ibrox is "every Rangers fan's nightmare".

The Athletic claim Gerrard is on Everton's shortlist to replace Carlo Ancelotti.

Meanwhile, the same outlet report Wolves have also considered the Rangers boss after Nuno Espirito Santo's departure.

Hutton insisted Gerrard's impressive work at Ibrox would have multiple clubs sniffing about.

As such, he admitted the former Liverpool star may consider his options this summer.

Asked if he worried about Gerrard leaving Ibrox, Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "Yeah, of course. I think it will be every Rangers fan's nightmare knowing how well he's done.

"He's come in, it's taken him a few seasons to settle in but we're seeing how good he actually is as a manager at the moment and what he can bring to the table.

"With this managerial merry-go-round that literally is happening down south, there's going to be opportunities. It doesn't matter who you are. You want to be working or playing at the highest level possible.

"There's a lot of money down south. If there's an opportunity to go to a team and rebuild a team at a high level, of course you're going to have to think about it. It's only natural.

"I'm worried as a Rangers fan. We know how good a job Gerrard's done and people will be looking at him."

Gerrard joined the Light Blues in the summer of 2018.

He led Rangers to the Premiership title for the first time in 10 years during the 2020/21 campaign.
