Alan Hutton has revealed how Rangers players were drooling about Ryan Kent behind the scenes even before he established himself in the team.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Scotland and Light Blues defender admitted he was soon won over himself by the winger’s ability.
He recognises Rangers “paid a lot of money” to sign him for £6.5million rising to a potential £7.5million last month but insisted it was a “massive” signing.
Hutton is convinced that Kent can be a huge force this season as Rangers set their sights on their 55th league title and stopping Celtic steamrollering to nine-in-a-row.
“I’ve been very impressed by him since he joined – obviously knew he was on loan in the Championship, I don’t think he played too much, probably not as much as he’d want,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“When he made the [loan] move last season I was excited about it, especially hearing off the players that he was good. I made my own opinion after the first little while.
“It took him a little bit of time to get into the swing of it but when he got in I was just thinking, ‘wow, this is the type of player that you need’. Aggressive and everything that he did – attacked fullbacks, taking people on one-v-one, no fear.
“I think that’s the thing, at Ibrox, playing in front of 52,000, if you’re maybe a bit scared or don’t want to give the ball away, you’re never really going to excite the crowd and be able to move on.
“He’s taken to it like a duck like water – no fear, 100 per cent and the fans absolutely love him.”
Kent is currently out injured with a hamstring injury sustained in his comeback against Livingston in the middle of last month.
He has missed Rangers’ last three games and is unlikely to be back until after the international break.
