Hutton slams Kane and three missing Tottenham stars, tells Nuno to start new signing against Rennes
Alan Hutton cannot believe Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo did not call on Bryan Gil against Crystal Palace.
The former Spurs and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 20-year-old has the potential to “unlock” defences and must start against Rennes on Thursday night.
Tottenham struggled to take up advanced positions against Palace, with striker Harry Kane failing to touch the ball inside the Eagles’ box – according to Opta.
Kane cut an isolated figure up front despite Lucas Moura toiling away against the Palace midfield in an attempt to service the Golden Boot holder.
According to Alasdair Gold, Gil was set to enter the fray as a substitute but Japhet Tanganga’s dismissal put pay to the change.
Hutton believes Gil could be the answer to Spurs’ creative woes in the absence of Heung-min Son.

“I like him. When he signed, I obviously looked him up and he looks really tricky and really good on the ball,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s a player that can split open defences, and probably what they were crying out for the other day against Palace.
“I know the red card didn’t help, but when you look at Harry Kane’s performance – zero touches inside the box, no shots on target.
“The whole team had two shots, just one on target.
“The midfield, Winks, Skipp and Hojbjerg – it needed a bit more creativity.
“It would be nice to see him against Rennes and beyond because I think he could really unlock defences in the Premier League.”
Gil has made just three appearances for Spurs this season. He has played just two Premier League minutes.
The Spanish winger signed from Sevilla for around £22.5million, with Erik Lamela heading the other way.
