Alan Hutton has raved as Tottenham close in on the signing of Metz wonderkid Pape Matar Sarr.

The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he had been wowed by the 18-year-old's prodigious ability in the middle of the park.

However, Tottenham have won the race after having a £10million-plus bid accepted.

Hutton revealed he had done his own research on the youngster ahead of his prospective move to north London.

He admitted he had been seriously impressed with Sarr's ability both in defence and attack.

Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "I was looking him up and he does look a very good player. What a talent at only 18.

"The defensive qualities are there, he breaks play up. Not only that, it's his aggression moving forwards. He's got a good range of passing.

"He's a modern-day midfielder and at 18, yes, he's just burst onto the scene. He looks to have everything in the locker.

"It's probably a position where Tottenham, at the moment, need someone like that."

Sarr has played 28 times for Metz since breaking through the youth ranks.

He made 22 Ligue 1 appearances last term and was called up to the Senegal national team.

He has picked up two international caps to date.
