Man United and Chelsea are racing to sign Metz sensation Pape Matar Sarr, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 18-year-old is on the radar of the Premier League elite after bursting on to the scene at the French club last season and establishing himself as a first-team regular.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that United and Chelsea face competition from Man City for the teenager midfielder.

They could be willing to sign him and loan him back to Metz for the season in order to strike a deal by the 31 August cut-off.

Sarr is valued at around the £28million mark as he has a contract with the French club that runs until 2025.

The youngster, who made his international debut for Senegal in March, signed a five-year contract last September.

That provides some financial comfort to Metz, who are well placed to secure a huge fee for a player who does not turn 19 until next month.

Sarr can play anywhere across the midfield and was used in defensive, attacking and central midfield roles last term.

He started 12 of the last 13 of Metz's league matches last term has been named in their starting XI for each of their Ligue 1 games this season.

Chelsea, United and City all see Sarr as a potential star in the making and are readying moves for the teenager.

They could see it as shrewd business to loan the youngster back to Metz for the campaign so he can continue his development as a regular starter in a top league.
