Hutton tips Aston Villa sign Liverpool player in January after source's transfer reveal

Alan Hutton has tipped Aston Villa to beat rivals to sign a Liverpool player on loan in January after Steven Gerrard’s arrival.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Holte End favourite insisted the 41-year-old could help the Villans lure a new level of talent to Villa Park.

A Villa source has told Football Insider Gerrard will be backed with “huge” funds in both January and next summer’s window.

Villa owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are committed to spending on new signings despite their £300million-plus outlay since sealing promotion.

Hutton suggested Gerrard’s “aura” means he can attract players other managers cannot.

He touted a potential loan deal for a player from Liverpool in January.

Asked if Gerrard could lure a better level of talent, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think so. I think the level goes up a notch.

“He did it at Rangers. There are people all around the world who would be desperate to play under Steven Gerrard. To learn from one of the best in the business.

“He’s just got that aura about him. I go back to the likes of John Terry, they’re very similar to me, Frank Lampard.

“They can get a type of player that maybe other managers wouldn’t be able to reach.

“Maybe we are talking about going getting a player on loan from Liverpool. I can see that happening. Maybe a calibre of player that wouldn’t go to Rangers but would go to Aston Villa to play in the Premier League.

“He can attract a certain type so I think the January window could be exciting times.”

Villa signed Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey, Danny Ings and Ashley Young on permanent deals this summer.

Axel Tuanzebe also joined on loan from Manchester United.
